New Sign at the Old Lot
All Dressed Up and Nowhere to Go
When our previous off-site meeting place, Firewood, unexpectedly closed in December, we managed to locate a suitable venue at Marzano’s on Route 31; we had previously held some January meetings there.
But once again, we’re looking for an Association meeting site. Marzano’s is under new management, and the cost of using a banquet room is ridiculous — for us, anyway.
If you know of any local establishments with really inexpensive conference rooms, please contact us. We need a new one!
Rumor has it that the former Firewood will be reopening as a sports bar, but we don’t know if they will still be making rooms available for meetings.

McHenry County Choppers
ComEd Scissorhands is planning its usual hack-and-slash of the local plant life. They’ll be in our area during the next three months, reducing our glorious woodland treasures to gnarly, disgusting remnants, all the while telling us that they’re protecting our power lines.
For more information, see ComEd.com/Trees , or call 800.334.7661 (“800-Edison-1”, if you’ve got the time to find those tiny letters on your phone) and ask to speak with a “Vegetation Management representative”.
Meeting Place Found: Marzano’s
The January 19 meeting will be held at Marzano’s, 1501 S. Route 31, McHenry. We’ve met there before, for a few of the January meetings. 7:00 p.m.
We Need a Meeting Place
Our usual meeting place, Firewood Restaurant, unexpectedly closed on December 30. Our next meeting needs a location! Any suggestions? Contact us if you’ve got one.

BREAKING BROKEN NEWS
There is a new stop sign on Pin Oak Court, at its intersection with Ojibwa Lane.
This information will probably be ignored by those of you who speed down Ojibwa in your mini-vans, but it’s the most excitement in Woodcreek since Bill Conley replanted the greenery at the entrance sign.
The entrance to Woodcreek, lookin’ good. Thanks, Bill!
On September 10th, a person was observed planting small pennants on the northeast corner of Ojibwa and Pin Oak. Speculation on the purpose of these pennants was rampant; one of the wilder guesses was the possibility that an 18-hole miniature golf course was being constructed at that corner.
However, on the morning of Monday, September 17th, a representative of McHenry Public Works arrived and installed a stop sign, in short order.
The installation took about half-an-hour. Not only was a stop sign installed, but the existing “No Outlet” sign on the northeast corner was relocated: it was too close to the curb.
The new, shining sign now stands tall on that corner, its bold white letters and bright red background beckoning to travelers, as if to say “Cease your journey for a brief moment; admire my form, and consider the weight of my message.”
However, on the opposite corner, the post which previously held the “No Outlet“ sign stands rusted and forlorn, its metal shield stripped from its summit.
The first two vehicles to pause and reflect at the new sign were large trucks representing MDC (formerly Marengo Disposal Company). However, a third vehicle — marked with the eagle logo of the United States Postal Service — failed to stop before entering the intersection, although it did properly signal for a right turn.
Addenum: as we go to press, a front-loader (sometimes called a “backhoe”) extracted the post which was previously used for the “No Outlet” sign. The front-loader was last seen proceeding east on Ojibwa Lane, no doubt to gather with its brethen and boast of the booty it had acquired.
Found: Empty Beer Can
This can was found near the intersection of Ojibwa Lane and Pin Oak Drive on the morning of Sunday, May 20th. Its owner may claim it by sending email to WPOA , describing the can and its contents. When retrieving the can — which is being held in a safe location — be prepared to supply a full set of fingerprints and a DNA sample, for comparision with the evidence which we have taken from the can itself.
All Telephone Numbers Require Eleven Digits
In case you hadn’t heard, Area Code 815 has a new overlay code, 779. This new area code encompasses all of the current 815 geographic area. As of February 17, 2007, all telephone numbers within the 815 and 779 area codes are be required to dial eleven digits, not just the ‘usual’ seven.
Eleven-digit dialing has been permitted in 815 since August 19, 2006; but as of February 17, 2007, eleven-digit dialing will be mandatory. On and after February 17, attempting to dial a seven-digit number will trigger an alert message, “you must dial one plus the area code to reach this number”.
So, from now on, be sure to add 1-815 in front of your local calls!
